Using the On-Screen Keyboard

An on-screen keyboard is available in PTV NAVIGATOR 6 to make it easier for you to enter (i.e. type in) information.

Before you begin typing, you see a hint text in square brackets that indicates the type of address information that you can currently enter. As soon as you start typing, this hint text disappears.

PTV NAVIGATOR 6 changes the entry mode of the keyboard, depending on the type of information you wish to enter. You can also switch between the entry modes manually by using the following buttons:
  • To enter letters, tap the ABC button.
  • To enter numbers, tap the 123 button.
  • To enter special characters, tap the ÄÁÀ button.
Using the (1) backspace key, you can delete your entry character by character.

You can hide the on-screen keyboard by tapping the button labelled as (2). This enables you to see more of the results list.

PTV NAVIGATOR 6 has an intelligent keyboard with "look ahead" functionality. As you are typing, the software checks which letters are required for the remainder of the text entry and displays only these letters on the keyboard.

Tips & Tricks
  • If your device is equipped with a hazard warning function, please note that in certain countries it is forbidden to use devices that warn motorists of hazards. Please make sure this ban does not apply to the country you are in before using this function. Use of the hazard warnings is at your own risk.
  • In PTV NAVIGATOR 6 you may find that there are different ways of entering the elements of an address. For instance it might be possible to enter the name of the street first if this function is supported by the installed map. Further information on this topic can be found in the user's guide.
  • What happens if I leave the calculated route? If this is the case, PTV NAVIGATOR 6 will re-calculate the route.
  • Why doesn't the voice alert work for me? Make sure that voice alert is switched on. If it is, then check that the system volume of your device is not too low or set to mute.
  • If you have interrupted navigation, (e.g. in order to take a break at a service station), you can proceed with your journey as follows. Tap the Continue navigation symbol. Navigation to your previously entered destination is then resumed.
  • Whilst navigation is running, I encounter some roadworks and I am unable to continue driving on the calculated route. What can I do? In PTV NAVIGATOR 6 you can close road sections for navigation in advance: Tap the Basic Functions button in the navigation screen and then tap the symbol Avoid road in advance. Specify the length of the road section that you wish to close in advance. PTV NAVIGATOR 6 will now close the specified length of road and will recalculate the route. It is recommended that you close a relatively small road section when avoiding roadworks and a longer road section when avoiding traffic jams.
